The Basics of Craps

The basics of craps include the table layout, the dice, come out roll and betting options. There is a pair of dice and always a puck button on the table with “ON” and “OFF” written on either side of it. Before the game starts the Puck is set on “OFF”.

The first roll is called the come-out roll.

Pass line and Don’t Pass Line Bets are placed before the come-out roll.

A result of 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 is neutral neither bet lose or win and this sets a “point”.

The puck is moved to the point and set in “ON”.

The point now becomes the basis of any other Pass and Don’t Pass Line bets made after the point is made.

After the point is set then all other betting options are open, that is, Come and Don’t come bets, Field bets and many more.

Craps Table Layout

Craps is played on a table with numbers 2 to 12, and various bets placed on one side of the table in specific positions. The other side of the table has the open, same numbers in corresponding positions. The one side of the table is basically a mirror reflection of the other. The table is made this way to ensure that players on either side at a casino have easy view of their betting options. It also makes easy for players to reach for their chips as the place bets. When you play online the table is similar to the casino table but everything is done with the click on the screen.

The Come-Out Roll

 The come-out roll is the first roll in a craps game. There are only two betting options Pass Line and Don’t Pass Line bets.

1. A result of 2, 3, 12 results in a loss for the Pass Line Bets, (Don’t Pass bets win) the round immediately ends and all pass line bets lose 
2. If the results of the dice roll are 7 or 11, the Pass line bets win, (all, don't pass line bets lose)
3. If the shooters first roll results in a 4; 5; 6; 8; 9; or 10, there are no wins or losses in this case. The results rolled out become the point and all bets become centred around this result

Basic Craps Bets

• Pass Line- this is a bet on the dice roll totalling 7 or 11. if the dice roll is equal to 2, 3 or 12 you lose if you have placed a pass line bet. Any other results but a 7 or 11 is moot and you continue to bet until you win
• Don't Pass Line- this bet as you may have guessed is the opposite of the pass line bet. in this wager you're hoping for an outcome of two or three. In the event that the dice roll is equal to 7 or 11 all bets are lost
• Come Bet – this can only be placed after the come-out roll in the result of a point. A come bet is exactly the same as a pass line bet only that it can only be placed after a point
• Don't Come Bet- this bet is the opposite of the come bet. the only way you can win after placing this wager is if there is a result of two or three. This bet is exactly the same as the don't pass line bet however it is only viable after a point is set.
• Field Bet - this bet only pays out if a single roll results in a 2; 3; 4; 9; 10; 11; or 12.
• Over And Under 7- these two bets are based on whether the dice roll results in a number that is more than 7 or less than 7. Naturally a result of less than 7 will win if you placed in under 7 bets and a result of more than 7 will win if you place an over 7 bets.
